Back to Basics

Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Each week, Fridays are dedicated to the beginner cook. It doesn't get more basic than this. But it also doesn't get much better...

1. Take two pieces of fresh sourdough. Butter the outside of each piece.

2. Sprinkle some garlic salt and a little pepper over the butter. Press the seasoning into the bread with your fingers.

3. Add a thick slice of Gruyere cheese.

4. Sandwich press is preferred, but if you don't have one...grill each side on a pan over medium heat.

sourdough, havarti and spinach makes for a tasy grilled cheese, too.

Or, Erin does sourdough, goat cheese, proscuitto (spelling?) and apricot preserves.

Done and done. I love havarti, so will definitely give that one a try. Not a big fan of goat cheese, but the combination of apricot and prosciutto sounds good. I'll let you know how both go. Thanks!
